Nine Sightings, One Night: The Ultimate Cat-Spotting Guide to Alleycat's Trailer

There are two kinds of people who watch the Alleycat trailer: the ones who see a moody one-night odyssey through the city, and the ones who hit the spacebar every eleven seconds because they swear something whiskered just crossed frame left.

This article is for the second kind. Welcome home.

We've gone through the trailer with a magnifying glass and a lot of coffee, cataloging every confirmed cat sighting, complete with timestamps. Consider this your bingo card for premiere night.

Sighting #1: The Gutter Glance (0:07)

Seven seconds in, as our protagonist ducks out of the subway station, look at the bottom-left corner of the frame. Just barely — and we mean barely — there's a tabby silhouette slinking along the curb. Blink and you miss it. Early forum consensus says this is the film's titular stray on her first prowl of the night, which tracks with what the directors have hinted about the cat being a quiet thread running through all nine hours of story time.

Sighting #2: The Fire Escape Perch (0:23)

This one's easier. During the rooftop argument between Dana and her ex, a cat sits on a fire escape railing in the soft-focus background, tail flicking in what we can only describe as judgment. Some fans think this is a different cat — the coloring looks darker — which has fueled the popular "nine cats, nine lives" theory: one feline per hour of the film.

We're not saying we believe it. We're not saying we don't.

Sighting #3: The Bodega Sentinel (0:38)

The bodega scene is a fan favorite already — that neon-lit exchange about the lottery tickets is pure New York — but freeze at 0:38 and you'll spot a chunky orange cat lounging on the magazine rack like he owns the place. Rumor has it this cat, reportedly named Big Nacho by the crew, was not in the script at all. He just lived at the filming location and refused to do another take without treats.

An icon, honestly.

Sighting #4: The Reflection (0:51)

Here's where things get weird. In the rain-soaked shot outside the dive bar, watch the window reflection, not the actors. For roughly half a second, a cat's eyes catch the light in the glass. Nothing is visible in the shot itself — only the reflection. Is it a continuity Easter egg? A stylistic statement about hidden lives? A happy accident the editors decided to keep? The marketing team has been suspiciously silent when fans ask.

Sighting #5: The Final Frame (1:44)

The trailer's last shot — our heroine walking into the dawn — hides its secret in plain sight. Look at the shadow she casts on the pavement. Look closely at the ears.

That's all we'll say.

What It All Means (Maybe)

The prevailing fan theories fall into three camps. Camp One says the cats are literal — a single stray threading through the night, a silent witness to every secret spilled. Camp Two leans symbolic, pointing to the film's tagline about nine lives and arguing each sighting marks a character's turning point. Camp Three, naturally, believes Big Nacho is the true protagonist and everything else is supporting material.

The directors have only said the cats are "load-bearing," which has solved nothing and delighted everyone.

Your Turn, Sleuths

We know we haven't caught them all. The trailer is ninety seconds of grainy, gorgeous chaos, and there are almost certainly sightings we missed — maybe in the crowd shots, maybe in the blur of the taxi sequence, maybe somewhere no one's thought to look.

So here's the call: grab your screencaps, note your timestamps, and send your discoveries our way before premiere night. We'll be compiling the community's findings into a master spotting guide, and the reader who finds a confirmed sighting nobody else caught gets their name in the credits of this site — and our eternal, slightly unhinged respect.

The night is long. The cats are patient. Start pausing.
